Tidal Memory — image 1

Tidal Memory began with a recording—not a photograph. I sat on a beach in Big Sur with a field recorder, capturing three hours of wave patterns. Back in the studio I translated the rhythm of those recordings into brushstrokes, painting each wave crest as a pulse of mineral teal against the glass. The result is a seascape you feel rather than see.

Painted on 3mm German glass using mineral-based pigments ground in the studio from raw azurite and malachite, mixed with enamel binder. Six layers kiln-fired. The mineral pigments produce a granular, luminous quality that synthetic pigments cannot replicate. Framed in sustainably sourced maple with a natural oil finish.

The mineral pigments have a subtle sparkle under side-lighting. Place where morning light can rake across the surface, or use a cool-white picture light mounted above the frame for evening display.

Dust with a dry microfiber cloth. The mineral pigments are sealed behind glass and require no special care. The maple frame can be refreshed with a light coat of tung oil annually.
