Moonlight Jester was born from a week of insomnia. I kept seeing the same image before falling asleep — a small figure sitting on the moon with binoculars, watching the world go on without him. The glass gave me a way to paint that loneliness as something funny, almost heraldic. When the piece is backlit, the moon itself glows from within and the jester becomes a silhouette, which felt exactly right.
Painted on 3mm low-iron float glass using Reusche enamels. Seven kiln-firings at 580°C bind the pigments into the glass surface. The ivory background is a single even pour with no brush marks, which took four attempts to get right. Framed in solid maple with a removable back panel for optional backlight installation.
Designed to transform under backlight. A soft white LED panel behind the frame turns the moon into a glowing lantern. In ambient light, the piece reads as a graphic composition; backlit, it becomes a scene you can almost step into.
Dust with a dry soft cloth. The kiln-fired enamels are permanent and light-stable for generations. Wipe the maple frame with a slightly damp cloth as needed.
