The work's story

Built to change with the room.

The Empress of Roses began as a study in poise and radiance. The profile is calm and ceremonial, but the surrounding wings, roses, and ornamental gold work keep the piece in motion. Because the fine lines were painted first and sealed beneath later layers, the surface holds an unusual sense of depth when daylight moves across the glass.

How it holds light

Best placed where side light can skim across the gold work. In softer evening light the figure becomes quieter; in daylight the wings and roses lift forward with a warmer glow.

Placement and delivery

Ships in a custom-lined crate with insured delivery throughout the continental US. International shipping is quoted after framing and destination review.

Catalogue notes

Painted on polished glass using enamel color, oil detail work, and hand-laid gold leaf. The facial features, jewelry, and filigree were painted before the larger wing forms and background fields, then sealed in successive passes to preserve clarity.

Dust the front surface with a dry microfiber cloth. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners and never apply moisture to the painted rear surface or frame interior.
